Given Imaging's M2A System Receives Hospital Outpatient Reimbursement by New Jersey and Tennessee Medicare

ATLANTA -- Oct 9 2002 - Given Imaging Inc. (NASDAQ: GIVN) announced today that Riverbend Government Benefits Administrator (RGBA), a Medicare Fiscal Intermediary, has issued a coverage statement for capsule endoscopy performed in an outpatient hospital setting for the states of New Jersey, Tennessee and in Rural Health Clinics in 44 other states. This reimbursement is expected to cover costs pertaining to use of the workstation, the M2A capsule, nurse time and all facility resources. This coverage is in addition to the physician reimbursement already established by Medicare in New Jersey.
