Given Imaging's M2A to be Reimbursed in New York and New Jersey by Empire Medicare Services -- Also receives Medicare coverage in 5 additional states and territories

ATLANTA (June 12, 2002) -- Given Imaging, Inc. (NASDAQ: GIVN) announced today that Empire Medicare Services issued a coverage policy for reimbursement of capsule endoscopy for the small intestine. As a result of this announcement, Empire Medicare Services will offer capsule endoscopy reimbursement to those among its 5.4 million beneficiaries who may suffer from diseases of the small intestine within the noted indications.

Medicare coverage statements have been announced in 5 additional markets, by Palmetto GBA for South Carolina, Ohio, and West Virginia, and by Triple-S for Puerto Rico and The U.S. Virgin Islands.

In May, Capsule Endoscopy received a Medicare coverage statement from the National Heritage Insurance Co. in California and a non-Medicare coverage policy from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield which covers eight states including Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Colorado, Nevada and Maine.
