Given Imaging Announces 30 Presentations on Capsule Endoscopy at the American College of Gastroenterology's 68th Annual Scientific Meeting
Data to be presented supports use of capsule endoscopy in patients with persistent GI symptoms
YOQNEAM, Israel - October 8, 2003 - Given Imaging (NASDAQ: GIVN) announced today that data from 30 abstracts will be presented at the American College of Gastroenterology's (ACG) 68th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland from October 10th - 15th. The scientific poster and oral presentations will highlight capsule endoscopy's pivotal role in diagnosing a broad range of small bowel disorders as well as its positive impact on clinical outcomes. Given Imaging will also host a booth (#229) located in Exhibit Hall A at the meeting.
“Studies presented at this year's ACG provide additional evidence for using capsule endoscopy as a first line diagnostic tool for the small bowel and highlight its benefits for patients with persistent gastrointestinal symptoms. Several studies also show that capsule endoscopy can improve clinical outcomes as well as patient satisfaction,” said Nancy Sousa, President of Given Imaging, Inc. “Coupled with the recent announcement by the American Medical Association of the assignment of a permanent (Level 1) CPT code, capsule endoscopy is now clearly an established mainstream tool and an indispensable part of every GI physician's diagnostics armamentarium.”
“Capsule endoscopy has opened up new vistas of diagnosis for the field of gastroenterology such that physicians are able to view the entire small bowel for the first time. In addition, we are now able to verify a higher prevalence of certain diseases such as Crohn's and NSAID-related damage in the small intestine,” said Waqar Qureshi, MD, associate professor of medicine and chief of endoscopy at Baylor University and the Houston VA Medical Center. Dr. Qureshi will be holding an ACG 2003 Annual Postgraduate Course on capsule endoscopy on Sunday, October 11 at the conference.
Among the posters to be presented at ACG 2003 are the following:
