Additional funding and the amended protocol have been approved to extend the PJS Pancreatic Cancer Screening study. The study will continue enrolling new patients until funding expires in June of 2004.
There will not be a one-year follow up for new patients at this time. Patients will still be able to receive an abdominal and pelvic CT, Ca19-9, serum trypsinogen, endoscopic ultrasound with possible fine needle aspirate if the pancreas is abnormal.
The genetic counselors have agreed to continue meeting with the new patients for a brief counseling session to review personal and familial risk for pancreatic cancer and other associated cancers. All testing and counseling would be done in one day.
Patients may stay in the hospital in a semi private room before or after the procedure or both at no cost. There will not be compensation for travel expenses.
